You can purchase tickets at any time by clicking on Find A Fare. You’ll need one of the following valid credit cards to complete your purchase:

- American Express
- Diners Club/MasterCard
- Discover® Network
- MasterCard

To book your reservation and buy your ticket online, start by entering your departure and arrival stations along with your departure date into the Fare Finder tool.


eTicketing is available for one-way and roundtrip travel on San Joaquin® and Pacific Surfliner® trains, along with most Amtrak Thruway Buses. Click here for more information.

Using a PDA

You can access Amtrak.com on your BlackBerry(TM), Treo(TM) or web-enabled phone. With a customized interface for each device, screen space is maximized and the content is organized for handheld devices and mouse-less navigation.

You can get information and purchase tickets 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245). Julie, Amtrak's automated, voice-activated agent, is happy to help. Or, if you need live, personal assistance, just say "agent" or press the "0" button on your telephone. For TDD/TTY service, please call 1-800-523-6590.

At a Staffed Station (from an Amtrak Agent)

You can purchase tickets in person at any staffed Amtrak station. At most staffed stations, Amtrak accepts credit cards and cash.  For a list of staffed stations visit Stations.

At a Station (from a Quik-Trak Kiosk)

As an alternative, you can purchase your tickets at a Quik-Trak kiosk. Quik-Trak kiosks are located at most larger Amtrak stations.  For a directory of Quik-Track kiosk locations, click here.

Through a Travel Agent

You can purchase Amtrak tickets through a qualified travel agent.

Onboard Trains

Under certain limited circumstances, where other purchase options are not available, you can purchase and/or pick up your ticket from a conductor on-board the train.

Onboard Buses

If you do not have a ticket, you may board an Amtrak Thruway bus, and purchase your ticket at the next staffed station. Your valid I.D. will be collected by the driver and returned to you at the time you purchase your ticket. Please note that a convenience surcharge may be applied.

Accepting Credit and Debit Cards at a Station

Credit cards are accepted for the purchase of Amtrak tickets and services at all staffed stations. There is no minimum amount required for credit card purchases.
The following rules govern the acceptance of credit cards at Amtrak ticket counters:

Ticket agents and Quik-Trak kiosks accept debit cards ("check cards") with a credit card logo.

Amtrak ticket agents accept only valid, unexpired credit and debit cards with the following:

• The person whose name is embossed on the front must sign the credit card on the back of the card. Unsigned credit cards are not accepted.

• The signature on the back of the card must match the signature on the ticket or charge form.

• Credit cards are accepted for the amount of the sale only and may not be used to obtain cash.

In all cases, Amtrak policies pertaining to Passenger Identification Requirements apply when using a credit card for purchase of tickets or services.

Accepting Personal Checks at a Station

Amtrak does not accept personal checks, except by prior arrangement for group travel.
