The San Joaquin

The San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA) is a joint powers authority comprised of agencies along the 364-mile San Joaquin Corridor (Bakersfield-Fresno-Modesto-Stockton-Sacramento-Oakland).  Effective July 1, 2015, the SJJPA has assumed administrative responsibility for the state-funded San Joaquin rail service operating on the San Joaquin Corridor, following the approval of an interagency transfer agreement with the State of California. The San Joaquin rail service is currently the fifth busiest Amtrak intercity route in the nation, with about 1.2 million annual passengers.

Locally focused management of the San Joaquin rail service will help to further enhance customer service, ensure efficient use of resources, and allow effective decisions about schedules, on-board amenities, and service expansion.  The SJJPA, which is made up of elected officials throughout the San Joaquin Corridor, will be a strong voice in advocating for service improvements and expansions.
